Membership:

Membership in the Hampden Township Volunteer Fire Company starts with an application, background check, and voting upon in a company meeting.  Once voted into the company, you will be brought onto our organization as a Probationary Member.  You remain in this status for 6 months while in basic training, attending drills, fire and rescue calls, meetings and other Company functions.

Training:

Throughout your career as a volunteer firefighter, training will be your one of your highest priorities.  The Hampden Township Fire Company prides itself on providing you with professional instruction in all fields of the fire service including engine company operations, rescue operations, techniques, and personal safety.  You will also be encouraged to attend training provided outside the Fire Company at such facilities as Harrisburg Area Community College, York County Fire Academy, and the State Fire Academy.  The skills you acquire are yours and last a lifetime.

Teamwork:

While training and acquired skills may be a high priority of the Company, teamwork is what holds the fire service together.  The "Buddy System", or "Two-in Two-out", has long been a part of the fire service and the Fire Company stresses a constant need for the "Buddy System".  The fire service is a Brotherhood and we need to be able to rely on each other when we need it most.

Commitment:

The commitment you make as a volunteer firefighter is not only to the Fire Company but also to the community and the residents of Hampden Township.  This is a commitment that not only you have to make but your family must agree upon.  The hours are long, the work is dirty, and the situations are hazardous.  Your greatest driving force will be your pride.  If you believe you have what it takes to meet the challenges of our business, we welcome you to join us and enjoy the most rewarding jobs in the world.
